Hello Gymnastics Club members! Welcome to the first official monthly Club newsletter, a part of the Executive Board's new initiative to improve the dissemination and transparency of information between the Club's leadership and the general membership. We're debuting a new Announcements section, where we'll include any relevant announcements that apply to the entire membership of the club. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these newsletters, or if you'd like certain content or information to be featured in our next newsletter, you can email gymclub@umn.edu.
Announcements
After receiving feedback at our latest competitor meeting, the Gymnastics Club Executive Board will be opening a permanent suggestions "box", which will be hosted via Google Forms. The form is completely anonymous, although you are given the option to include your name and contact information if you'd like a board member to reach out to you regarding your feedback. If you have any suggestions or critiques regarding how we operate the club, or if you just want to chat with us, feel free to drop us a note by clicking this URL: https://tinyurl.com/gymclubsuggestions

Financials
On February 23rd, 2019, Treasurer John Retzlaff and President Sydney Diekmann presented their 2019-2020 operations funding request to the Student Services Fee committee. We request operational funding from the SSF committee each year for the cost to use our gymnastics facilities (Peik Gymnasium) and facility / participant insurance. This year, we received our full request of $4,800, which breaks down into $3,000 for Peik facilities and $1,800 for insurance. Here are some slides from our presentation:
In our last newsletter, we talked about how we received a programming grant from the SSF committee so that we can provide money for flights for competitors who are going to NAIGC Nationals this year. We chose to submit this grant request in order to improve accessibility and reduce financial barriers to attending Nationals. This past month, both myself and Treasurer John Retzlaff also submitted (and received) a grant application for our 2019-2020 operational expenses, which consist of our facility costs ($3,000 for Peik Gymnasium) and insurance costs ($1,800). You'll find some slides from this presentation above.
Additionally, we were able to provide competitors who completed extra fundraising during the year with additional money. 14 individuals completed extra fundraising, completing an additional 40 hours of fundraising during the year. Because of their willingness to go the extra mile, we'll be able to divvy up $1,700 of extra funds, or about $45 per fundraising-hour (great payoff!) this year to those individuals to use towards club-related expenses. Way to go, guys! You can expect to receive your reimbursement in early April.

Socials
While we had some social events during March, we didn't get any pictures! Wah wah. We'll make sure to do a better job of getting pictures at our Annual Member Banquet in April.
That's all, folks. We're looking forward to a great April and hope that you stay in touch with us through our social media accounts!
Love,
Sydney
