Hello Gymnastics Club members! Welcome to the second official monthly Club newsletter, a part of the Executive Board's new initiative to improve the dissemination and transparency of information between the Club's leadership and the general membership. We're debuting a new Announcements section, where we'll include any relevant announcements that apply to the entire membership of the club. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these newsletters, or if you'd like certain content or information to be featured in our next newsletter, you can email gymclub@umn.edu.
Announcements
Please take a moment to fill out our Summer Social event survey, linked here. We’d like to accommodate as many members’ preferences as possible, so let us know what you’d like to do this summer with your flipping friends! After the survey results are collected, we will be making announcements and event pages for the activities that will be hosted. Keep an eye on the Facebook Member page and our calendar to know when these socials will be held!
Men’s structured practices have been held during Monday practices in Cooke from 6-8pm. Chris Babbert, our men’s team captain, has been offering this time to anyone who is interested in learning and developing skills on the men’s events. Check out our calendar for the specific events that are emphasized each practice!
After receiving feedback at our latest competitor meeting, the Gymnastics Club Executive Board will be opening a permanent suggestions "box", which will be hosted via Google Forms. The form is completely anonymous, although you are given the option to include your name and contact information if you'd like a board member to reach out to you regarding your feedback. If you have any suggestions or critiques regarding how we operate the club, or if you just want to chat with us, feel free to drop us a note here.
Competition
NAIGC Nationals
From April 10th-14th, our competitive teams traveled to Daytona Beach, Florida to compete in the NAIGC National Championships. Congratulations to our individuals who placed: John Retzlaff, Andre Havasi, Chris Babbert, and Alex Gelz. Another huge congratulations to our Men’s Level 9 team who placed second overall. While in Florida, we enjoyed the beach and boogie-board on the ocean, ate at some local favorites, and competed our hearts out. Check out our Facebook page for more pictures and the re-cap video made by our previous Social Chair, Andre Havasi.
Socials
Annual Banquet and Potluck
To celebrate the end of another fun year of gymnastics, we held our Annual Banquet and Potluck at the Whole Music Club in Coffman. In addition to reminiscing, we elected our new Executive Board to lead our Club for the 2019-2020 year:
President: Abby Diekmann
Women’s Team Captain: Maddie Fearon
Men’s Team Captain: Chris Babbert
Treasurer: John Retzlaff
Fundraising Chair: Jake Kerling
Social Chair: Tori Gardner
General Officers: Maya Goldbaum and Brevin Bushlack
We also celebrated our graduating seniors and sent them off with the best wishes for success and happiness. Seniors, thank you so much for the love and support you brought to this team, and though some of you will be moving on to another phase in your lives, just remember where you came from and the impact you’ve left on our team. We love you all!
That's all, folks. We're looking forward to a great April and hope that you stay in touch with us through our social media accounts!
Abby
President, UMN Gymnastics Club
